General Description

This trail can get long and hot in the summer, making spring an ideal hiking time. The stream needs to be crossed a couple times near the bottom of the trail. Horses use this trail heavily. Along the top of the trail, the views are quite beautiful.

Directions from Durango, Colorado: Take Florida Road (County Road 240) east out of Durango approximately 9 1/2 miles to a dirt pull-off on the left side of the road directly across from the restaurant parking lot. There are a few spaces here and other parking spaces across the road.

After that point, the trail is almost impossible to follow due to heavy brush and fallen logs. We never found the final few miles of the trail despite spending an hour bushwhacking. Conditions: Lots of fallen trees and creek washouts make the trail difficult. It's impossible to hike quickly. Water Availability: Plenty of water due to the numerous creek crossings. Recommended Clothing: We hiked on a rainy day so the temperature and sun weren't a problem. The trail would be hot on a sunny day. Suggested Accessories: Hiking sticks are highly recommended to help with creek crossings and navigating over fallen logs.
