General Description

Operating since 1971 through a special use permit on the White River National Forest, Ashcroft is the oldest self-sustaining cross-country ski area in the U.S. Located 12 miles above Aspen in the spectacular Castle Creek Valley, the area offers excellent terrain for all levels of Nordic skiers. 35 kilometers of meticulously groomed Nordic trails are located on over 600 acres in the sub-alpine valley and surround the ghost town of Ashcroft, a turn-of-the-century mining town designated on the National Register of Historical Places.

Ashcroft Ski Touring operates out of the King Cabin at the end of Castle Creek Road. At the Nordic center, you may rent cross-country ski equipment, skate skis or snowshoes. Individual and group lessons are available on a daily basis.

For further information call: 970-925-1044.

Directions from Aspen: Take Main Street to Highway 82 going west out of town. At the roundabout, turn onto Castle Creek Road. Follow Castle Creek Road for 11.5 miles to the end of the plowed road where King Cabin and the Ashcroft Ski Touring Center is located.
