General Description

The Silver Bar Campground is located five miles southwest of Aspen on Maroon Creek Road. Silver Bar provides access to a variety of recreation opportunities including hiking, horseback riding, bike touring and wildflower identification.

There are four sites at the Silver Bar Campground each with a five day stay limit. No trailers or RV's are permitted.

Directions from ASPEN: Go 1 Mi. west on Hwy. 82 to the roundabout and turn onto Maroon Creek Rd. Then 4 Mi. south on Maroon Creek Rd. to the campground.

Normal Services Available: Memorial Day Weekend through September (NOTE: Fall color changes start around 9/15, seasons may vary depending on weather conditions) .

Report: All campsites have a view of the busy road to Maroon Bells. No privacy at all. Traffic noise a problem.

East Maroon Portal Trailhead - The East Maroon Portal provides access to the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. The Maroon Creek and East Maroon Trails start from here. Popular destinations include Maroon, and Copper Lakes, as well as East Maroon Pass.

Maroon Creek Area - The Maroon Creek area is located southwest of Aspen. The scenic Maroon Bells are the focal point of this area but not the only attraction.

Maroon Creek Road - Maroon Creek Road leads to Maroon Lake and the Maroon Bells, the most photographed mountains in the country. This route is good for taking an all day trip with a picnic stop.

Maroon Creek Trail - This trail offers a less crowded alternative to viewing the Maroon Valley. There are good views of the Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak. This is a good day hike and is also a popular trail for horseback riding.

West Maroon Portal Trailhead - The West Maroon Portal provides access to the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. The Maroon Creek and Maroon-Snowmass Trails start from here.

West Maroon Trail - This trail is one of the most heavily used trails in the Aspen area. Hikers, backpackers and horse travelers enjoy the wildflowers and access to the wilderness areas.
