General Description

The Salt Park Trail begins at the end of the Morapos Creek Road, north of Meeker. It leads to Salt Park, north of Sleepy Cat Peak. The trail follows an old road for the first 3 1/2 miles through aspen stands and open parks, crossing several small or intermittent streams. It then leaves the bottom and climbs roughly two miles to the Routt National Forest boundary and enters the west end of Salt Park. The trail continues east for another five miles, accessing the Wilson Mesa Trail #1800 , Pine Creek Trail #1195 (Routt), Lost Park Trail #1805, and ending at the Deadhorse-Long Park loop (FDR #230).

Directions from Meeker: Salt Park Trail is located 46 miles north of Meeker. Drive north of Meeker on State Highway 13 for 34 miles to the Morapos Creek Road junction. Turn right and go 12 miles to the forest boundary. The Morapos Trailhead campground is 1/4 mile ahead on your left. The trailhead is 300 yards further at the end of the road. The Salt Park trail begins at the northeast corner of the parking lot.

Dead Horse Road--Long Park Loop Four-Wheel Drive R - Starting from the Long Park end of the loop, you travel the divide between the White River and Williams Fork drainages on your way to the Dead Horse end of the loop.

Lost Park Trail - The Lost Creek Trail leads to Lost Park. The Lost Park Trail forks from there and links to the Salt Park Trail from which the South Fork of the Williams Fork and Salt Park are accessible.

Sleepy Cat General Forest Area - The Sleepy Cat area offers access to a number of four-wheel drive roads, trails, and hunting. It is located in the northwest portion of the Blanco Ranger District, northeast of Meeker.

Wilson Mesa Trail - This trail is located north of Meeker and south of Craig. It follows Morapos Creek and Pine Creek until it reaches the destination, Salt Park, northeast of Sleepy Cat Peak.
