Report: We had a whole lot of trouble finding the lake but we are horrible navigators. Once we found it, we swore we'd come back every year. The scenery is unreal, every where you look you see a postcard view. Aside from the scenery, the fishing was great. We caught and released many decent sized Cutthroat and Brookies. Later found that the best way to get there is on the scenic by-way out of Yampa and to Trapper's road. We had great lunch and conversation at the Buford store.
Conditions: WET, WET, WET. But bearable. Hiked up to McGinnis Lake. The rain started at the same time we started hiking and although it kept us cool, the steep trail was rough. Half of the lake is surrounded by fallen trees that make the going pretty slow.
Water Availability: Brought filters to treat water.
Recommended Clothing: Bring wet-weather-gear or you'll wish you had.
Suggested Accessories: Don't forget your fly rod and plenty of streamers, caddisflies, and some coachmen.
