General Description

The South Fork General Forest area offers accessibility to a wide variety of trails, lakes, campgrounds, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities within the Blanco Ranger District of the White River National Forest. This area includes the South Fork of the White River drainage, including Cliff Lake, Spring Cave, Hill Creek, Lost Solar, and Nichols Lake general areas. Much of this area lies within the Flat Tops Wilderness.

Cliff Lake Trail - This trail begins east of Meeker, along the South Fork of the White River, near the South Fork Campground. It takes you through blue spruce, aspen, and oakbrush allowing occasional views of South Fork Canyon.

Hill Creek Dispersed Camping Area - Hill Creek dispersed camping area is located 31 miles east of Meeker in the South Fork White River drainage, at an elevation of 8,000 feet. It is an undeveloped campground with a toilet. The access road is steep and rough.

Hill Creek Trail - This trail begins just off of the South Fork of the White River and follows Hill Creek entering the Flat Tops Wilderness. Scenery varies, moving through aspen groves, grassy parks, Engelmann spruce, and subalpine-fir.

Lost Solar Trail - This trail begins five miles up the South Fork Trail and takes out of the South Fork Canyon into the Solar Creek drainage. The trail finally ends up at the Oyster Lake Trail.

Nichols Creek Trail - The Nichols Creek Trail branches from the South Fork Trail, 16 miles from the South Fork Trailhead, above Budges Resort. It is most readily accessed from the Coffee Pot Road, north of Dotsero.

South Fork Campground - South Fork Campground is located 32 miles east of Meeker up the South Fork of the White River, at an elevation of 8,000 feet.

Spring Cave Trail - This trail begins at the South Fork Campground, southeast of Meeker. It leads to Spring Cave. The Cliff Lake Trail continues to Cliff Lake.
