Trappers Amphitheatre over Trappers Lake

Leaving Himes Peak Campground you cross the White River by foot bridge, then enter the Flat Tops Wilderness and follow the trail along Big Fish Creek. One and one quarter miles from the campground the Boulder Lake Trail branches to the right over Big Fish Creek. This trail winds its way for 2 miles up to Boulder Lake, lying below the cliffs forming the Flat Tops plateau. Proceeding up the Big Fish Trial 3/4 mile a waterfall named Bessie's Falls cascades down the slope to the east. One mile further lies Big Fish Lake. You continue to follow the meadows of Big Fish Creek for 1/2 mile beyond the lake and then start a twisting 2 mile climb onto the Flat Tops. One mile past Big Fish Lake the trail intersects with the Himes Peak Trail. Your journey on the Big Fish Trail ends 1/2 mile further at its junction with the Oyster Lake Trail.
Directions from Meeker: Boulder Lake Trail is located 46 miles east of Meeker. Take State Highway 13 east out of Meeker for one mile; turn right on County Road 8 for 39 miles to the Trappers Lake Road turn right for 6 miles to the Himes Peak campground. The Big Fish Trailhead is on the left before you enter the campground.
