This trail begins just west of Trappers Lake at the Wall Lake Trailhead. The trail climbs steeply from the road, crossing a small creek into a large meadow below Shepherds Rim. It then climbs gradually for 2 miles crossing the snow slide paths to a bench below Himes Peak. The peak is above on your left and below you to the north are the White River and Big Fish Drainages. The trail switchbacks for 1 mile off the bench to a large meadow full of wildflowers. You follow along the meadow for another mile to Florence Lake ( Florence Lake doesn't support any fisheries). From Florence Lake it is approximately 1 mile on to the Big Fish Trail. From this junction you may travel down the Big Fish Trail to the Trappers Lake Road or go up the trail onto the Flat Tops and return to the Wall Lake Trailhead via the Oyster Lake Trail and then to Wall Lake Trail an additional 6 miles beyond the Himes Peak Trail.
Directions from Meeker: Himes Peak Trail is located 52 miles east of Meeker. Take State Highway 13 east out of Meeker for one mile; turn right on County Road 8 for 39 miles to the Trappers Lake Road turn right for 11 miles to the Wall Lake Trailhead. From the trailhead the Himes Peak Trail begins along the road 1/4 mile north near Shepherds Rim Campground
