Elk Wallow is located 40 miles east of Carbondale, adjacent to the North Fork of the Fryingpan River. This campground is most suited for guests looking for a quiet, relatively primitive setting.

1) Camping units for autos, pickup campers, tents, small trailers and motor homes.
2) One vault type toilet.
3) Camping units have tables, fire rings, and parking spurs.
4) Campground roads are not paved.
5) Drinking water is not available.

Directions from Basalt: 27 miles east of Basalt, CO up the Frying Pan Rd, County Rd 104 and then 3 miles up Forest Development Rd 501 (North Fork Rd)

Seasonal Information:
Normally Accessible: Snowmelt through Mid-November (NOTE: No water, trash. Vault toilets, camp hosts, no running water- but access to a stream, trailers under 22' accepted, no fee- donations accepted) .
