This General Forest Area surrounds the town of Marble located on road #314 off Highway 133 south of Carbondale. A variety of recreation opportunities are accessible from this location including, but not limited to hiking, biking, motorcycle riding, horseback riding and fishing.

The terrain surrounding Marble is mountainous. Two main attractions in the area include the Maroon-Snowmass Wilderness Area and the Crystal Mill Historic Site. The area was originally settled in the 1880s because of it's mineral wealth. Today, it is home to the Colorado Outward Bound School and many outdoor enthusiasts.

Directions from Carbondale: Drive 21 miles south of Carbondale on Highway 133, turn on to road #3 -which becomes Forest Road 314. Travel approximately six miles to the town of Marble.

We had to cross a running stream and very rough road to get where were. Ther were about 20 people just sitting around their vehicles enjoying the day. It was a rough trip back out. Another day we tried to come at it from Marble but the road again became too rough. I'll never forget this road trip.
