Report: The camping area and lake were great. We even took the horses swimming in the lake...awesome. The whole area was beautiful and uncrowded. However, our first time out on this trail was tough. There were alot of water crossings, (most of them easy,) but one larger one cost us the trip, about 4.5 miles up, and one of the horses very narrowly escaped death or a career ending injury. The trail was very rocky and very steep in spots which made it difficult to navigate or return to camp...in a lightning storm and torrential downpour. This was a great trail for experienced riders on experienced and surefooted horses. This trail would have been more fun on foot and a lot less stressfull too. If you are in any way unsure of your horses, walk it and just take them swimming later:-)
Conditions: Steep. Rocky. Fallen Trees. Lots of Water Crossings.
Water Availability: Lots of clean water. at least every half hour or so. We drank our own, but it was fine for the horses, and could have easily been filtered. very clean.
Recommended Clothing: Be prepared for anything.
Suggested Accessories: bring first aid and hoof tools/easy boots, duct tape
