Glenwood Canyon, over 2,500 feet deep in places, is cut by the Colorado River. Interstate 70 runs through the canyon, however great care was taken in it's construction to preserve the canyon's incredible beauty. The highway offers many spectacular views of the Canyon walls and the Colorado River. The Glenwood Canyon Trail is a paved recreation trail that follows the Colorado River from Dotsero to Glenwood Springs. The rest areas and highway exits at Bair Ranch (exit 129), Hanging Lake (exit 125), and Grizzly Creek (exit 121), offer interpretive information, views of the canyon, and viewing of whitewater activities on the river. The Hanging Lake Trail and the Grizzly Creek Trail provide access to different arms of the canyon. Whitewater activity is accessed at the Shoshone, Grizzly Creek, and No Name exits. There are no campgrounds in the Glenwood Canyon area and camping is not permitted at the rest areas or along the main trails. Some recreation opportunities in the area include hiking, biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, fishing, and viewing scenery.
