AREA DESCRIPTION This 40 acre, 21 foot deep state-owned lake at an elevation of 8,510 feet is surrounded by a spruce/fir forest and a panoramic view of alpine scenery. West Brush Creek flows into and out of Sylvan Lake at 2 cubic feet. The lake is part of Sylvan Lake State Park, where a daily pass is required to enter. Two developed campgrounds with a total of 50 sites accommodating tents, trailers and campers are located on the lake's north end. A camping permit is needed to stay overnight. Ample parking for vehicles and trailers is available. FISHING There are excellent year-round opportunities to fish for Brook and Rainbow Trout. The Colorado Division of Wildlife stocks Sylvan Lake with both species. Fishing is good from the shore or from small boats. Only nonmotorized boats or electric motors are permitted on Sylvan Lake. BOATING Canoes, rowboats and small boats with electric motors are permitted. No gas-powered motors are allowed on Sylvan Lake. There is a good boat ramp for launching small boats from trailers and there is a large parking area for vehicles with trailers. Moss, algae and mud are the predominant bottom types for the lake.
Directions from Eagle: Follow Brush Creek Road 10 miles south . Turn right onto West Brush Creek Road, FDR 400, and drive another 6 miles to Sylvan Lake. A daily pass is needed for any use of the park and campers are required to purchase a camping permit in addition. The road is kept plowed throughout the winter for ice fishing and other winter activities.
Directions from Vail: Travel west on I-70 to Eagle (exit #147). Turn left and drive into Eagle. Turn left on Capitol Street and follow to Brush Creek Road. Turn left and follow Brush Creek Road 10 miles south of Eagle. Turn right onto West Brush Creek Road, FDR 400, and drive another 6 miles to Sylvan Lake.
