AREA DESCRIPTION
White Owl Lake, surrounded by spruce/ fir forest interspersed with small meadows is at 10,680 feet. This 21 acre natural lake has an average depth of 11 feet and a maximum depth of 24 feet. It is fed by intermittent spring runoff and a small inlet of 2.5 cf. The outlet, White Owl Creek, flows at 2.5 cf.FISHING OPPORTUNITIES
Bank fishing for brook trout only is relatively easy and this lake receives moderate to heavy fishing pressure. There is little or no fish reproduction in the lake, so the Colorado Division of Wildlife stocks brook trout on a regular basis. There is no boat ramp for trailer boats. FACILITIES
White Owl Campground consists of 6 sites with minimal facilities. The vault toilet has an accessible ramp from the small day use parking lot. There is no trash disposal or drinking water. Broken Rib Spring 10.1 miles back down the Coffee Pot Road, FDR 600 is a good source of water, but it is not tested regularly by the Forest Service.
Directions from Vail: Travel 43 miles west of Eagle on I-70 to the Dotsero exit. Follow signs for Sweetwater/ Burns turning north onto the Colorado River Road. Go 1.8 miles, turning left onto the Coffee Pot Road, FDR 600. Stay on this road for 27 miles, turning left at the sign for White Owl Campground.
