General Description

The Fulford Trail Loop begins at Yeoman Park, south of Eagle. From Yeoman Park, ride southeast on East Brush Creek Road to the first switch back to the left. Go left (northeast) at the switch back (Forest Road 418) and ride 4 miles, to the Fulford turnoff. The road is gravel, so expect some dust from passing vehicles. The rider will travel through aspen, spruce and fir forests. Depending on the time of day, shade is plentiful, either directly on or just off the road. The first 3 miles involve a gradual climb, with an average grade of 4%. The majority of the last mile leading to the Fulford turnoff is downhill. An outhouse is located just after the Fulford turnoff. No water or public facilities are available in town.

Travel through the town of Fulford to the Old Fulford Trail, road #419. Just past the last house, a somewhat cobbled jeep road ascends for a short distance at a 7% grade. After this, the majority of the trail is downhill through meadows of wildflowers and aspen and spruce/fir forests. Most of the path is jeep trail. It is not great for high speeds as much of it is rough and cobbled. The rider must ford a shallow stream and pass through two gates. The jeep trail ends at East Brush Creek Road. Turn left (south) on East Brush Creek Road and return to Yeoman Park.

Considerations:

Restroom facilities and drinking water are available at Yeoman Park Campground. Carry a sufficient water supply with you. Be prepared for quickly changing weather conditions. A windbreak and/or rain gear is recommended. You may want to bring a snack to enjoy en route.

Cautions:

Avoid herding cattle. If necessary, walk your bike past herds, allowing them to move from the trail.

Please secure gates after passing through.

Use of a helmet and eye protection is highly recommended.

Watch for motorized traffic on the main road.

Directions from Eagle: Go southeast on Brush Creek Road 10 miles to the junction of roads 400 and 415. Turn left and follow East Brush Creek Road (#415) 6 miles to Yeoman Park.

Directions from Vail: Travel west on I-70 to Eagle (exit #147). Turn left and drive into Eagle. Turn left on Capitol Street and follow to Brush Creek Road. Turn left and follow Brush Creek Road 10 miles south of Eagle. Turn left on East Brush Creek Road, FDR 415 and travel 6 miles to Yeoman Park.

Directions from Beaver Creek: Travel west on I-70 to Eagle (exit #147). Turn left and drive into Eagle. Turn left on Capitol Street and follow to Brush Creek Road. Turn left and follow Brush Creek Road 10 miles south of Eagle. Turn left on East Brush Creek Road, FDR 415 and travel 6 miles to Yeoman Park.

Report: Whoa...talk about a Rocky Mountain High! Wildflowers in full regalia including lots of scarlet gilia. I know the drought is still in full force in CO but it is much wetter and more lush on this trail than in years past. My two girlfriends and I left the families at Yeoman Park Campground for this great fat-burner uphill and exhilarating downhill (somewhat technical-- this is rated by Wildernet as easy?). Much fun.
Conditions: There is more water in the creeks than in the last two years. My dog scared up a nice little brookie in the last water crossing.
Water Availability: Bring a full camelbak.
Recommended Clothing: Wear the usual. Bring a rainjacket.

Report: This is an excellent ride. The trip from Fulford up to Lone Star Inn and New York Mountain is more difficult, but worth the effort. Stay at the Lone Star Inn (10th Mtn Div Hut)!! Also, ride up the other side of the valley to Peter Estin Hut (Steeper and harder ride, but even better views from the end and less people).

Brush Creek General Forest Area - This area south of Eagle includes both the East and West Brush Creek drainages.

Crooked Creek Pass Loop - This loop south of Eagle, links Yeoman Park, Hat Creek, Crooked Creek Pass and Sylvan Lake. It is recommended for mountain bikes or high clearance, 4 wheel-drive vehicles.

Firebox Park Loop Mountain Bike Trail - The Firebox Park Loop is located south of Eagle, on Hardscrabble Mountain. It consists of a 4.5 mile climb on dirt road and 4 miles of mostly descent, on jeep trail.

Fulford Cave Campground - This small campground is located south of Eagle up East Brush Creek at an elevation of 9,400 feet.

Newcomer Loop Mountain Bike Trail - This relatively short and easy loop is located south of Eagle, near Yeoman Park. It utilizes mostly gravel road, with a one mile portion of downhill jeep track.

Yeoman Park Campground - This scenic campground with 23 sites sits along East Brush Creek south of Eagle, at an elevation of 9,000 feet.

Yeoman Park to Fulford Cave Campground Mountain Bi - This relatively short and easy ride follows a dirt road from Yeoman Park Campground to Fulford Cave Campground.
