General Description

This ride begins at Yeoman Park, south of Eagle. This short ride is ideal for either the beginning mountain biker or anyone just arriving in Colorado from a lower altitude. It gives the rider a chance to get a feel for the sport or the effects of the altitude prior to attempting any of the longer, more challenging loops.

From Yeoman Park, ride southeast on East Brush Creek Road (415) to Fulford Cave Campground (do not turn left at the switchback leading to the town of Fulford). The road entails a very easy and gradual 1.4 mile climb to the campground with an altitude gain of only 400 feet. Upon reaching the campground, the rider may want to hike up to Fulford Cave. DO NOT ride bicycles on any trails leading out of the campground as these trails lead into the Holy Cross Wilderness where bikes are prohibited. Return on the same road (415) to Yeoman Park.

Considerations:

Restroom facilities and drinking water are available at Yeoman Park and Fulford Cave Campgrounds. Carry a sufficient water supply with you. Be prepared for quickly changing weather conditions. A windbreak and/or rain gear is recommended.

Cautions:

Use of a helmet and eye protection is highly recommended.

This road experiences heavy motorized traffic. Use extreme caution, especially on blind curves.

Directions from Eagle: Go southeast on Brush Creek Road 10.2 miles to the junction of roads 400 and 415. Turn left and follow East Brush Creek Road (#415) 6 miles to Yeoman Park.

Directions from Vail: Travel west on I-70 to Eagle (exit #147). Turn left and drive into Eagle. Turn left on Capitol Street and follow to Brush Creek Road. Turn left and follow Brush Creek Road 10 miles south of Eagle. Turn left on East Brush Creek Road, FDR 415 and travel 6 miles to Yeoman Park.

Directions from Beaver Creek: Travel west on I-70 to Eagle (exit #147). Turn left and drive into Eagle. Turn left on Capitol Street and follow to Brush Creek Road. Turn left and follow Brush Creek Road 10 miles south of Eagle. Turn left on East Brush Creek Road, FDR 415 and travel 6 miles to Yeoman Park.

Brush Creek General Forest Area - This area south of Eagle includes both the East and West Brush Creek drainages.

Crooked Creek Pass Loop - This loop south of Eagle, links Yeoman Park, Hat Creek, Crooked Creek Pass and Sylvan Lake. It is recommended for mountain bikes or high clearance, 4 wheel-drive vehicles.

Fulford Cave Campground - This small campground is located south of Eagle up East Brush Creek at an elevation of 9,400 feet.

Fulford Trail Loop Mountain Bike Trail - The Fulford Trail Loop is located south of Eagle, near Yeoman Park. It consists of 5.7 miles of gradual climbing on dirt road and 3.6 miles of descent on a jeep road, the Old Fulford Trail.

Newcomer Loop Mountain Bike Trail - This relatively short and easy loop is located south of Eagle, near Yeoman Park. It utilizes mostly gravel road, with a one mile portion of downhill jeep track.

Yeoman Park Campground - This scenic campground with 23 sites sits along East Brush Creek south of Eagle, at an elevation of 9,000 feet.
