The Crooked Creek Pass Loop is located in the East and West Brush Creek drainages south of Eagle. This loop is described as a mountain bike trip but it could also be a scenic drive. A high clearance 4 wheel-drive vehicle is recommended for the drive. Snow drifts at the top of Hat Creek often prevents vehicle traffic until early July. From Yeoman Park, travel southeast on Hat Creek Road (416) and at the "Y" (junction of Roads 416 and 436), veer to the left (416). Follow this road to the apex of the loop at 11,120 feet, then descend the 5 miles to Crooked Creek Pass. At the pass, turn right, toward Eagle, on Road 400 (Eagle-Thomasville Road) and travel 5.4 miles down to Sylvan Lake. Remain on this road for another 4.6 miles until reaching the East Brush Creek turn off to Yeoman Park; turn right (Road 415). This road entails a gradual 6 mile climb back to Yeoman Park Campground. The first 7.5 miles of the loop are predominantly uphill, but it is interspersed with some flat and downhill stretches that take the edge off the climb. The next 15 miles are downhill with the exception of a very short uphill climb just above Sylvan Lake. Use caution during the descent, particularly on blind curves, as the road receives relatively heavy vehicle traffic. During the 6 mile climb back to Yeoman Park, the rider follows East Brush Creek, past aspen groves, meadows and historic log cabins. Attractions and Considerations: Restroom facilities and drinking water are available at Yeoman Park and Sylvan Lake. Carry a sufficient water supply with you. Be prepared for quickly changing weather conditions. A wind breaker and/or rain gear is recommended. It is best to start this loop in the early morning to take advantage Cautions: Avoid herding cattle. If necessary, walk your bike past herds, allowing them to move from the trail. Use of a helmet and eye protection is highly recommended.
