SITES OF INTEREST
SCENIC VIEW PULLOUTS - There are a couple of small areas to pull off the road in the first 10 miles. From these, there are spectacular views of the Eagle valley, Gypsum Ponds and the Colorado River. Glenwood Canyon is a narrow crevice to the south.
DEEP CREEK CANYON OVERLOOK - At 15.8 miles up the road, there is an overlook of the 2400 foot deep canyon carved by Deep Creek. Two short trails, one is accessible for wheelchairs, lead down to different views of the canyon.

COFFEE POT SPRINGS CAMPGROUND - This 9 site campground with picnic tables, fire ring grills and vault toilets is located on a south-facing slope at the edge of an aspen forest overlooking an open meadow and 3 snowcapped mountain ranges beyond.

BROKEN RIB SPRING - A good source of water, although not regularly tested by the Forest Service, visitors find the water refreshing.

CRANE PARK - This large open meadow, 21.5 miles up, is a good place to look for herds of elk.

WHITE OWL LAKE - This 21 acre lake offers fishing for brook trout. There are 6 campsites and a vault toilet on the east side.

DEEP LAKE - A popular subalpine campground and fishing spot is found here at the end of FDR 600. This heavily fished lake has rainbow, brook, and lake trout. The campground has 35 sites with picnic tables, fire rings, level gravel driveways (for RVs) and 3 vault toilets.

Directions from Eagle: Travel 14 miles west on I-70 to the Dotsero exit. Follow signs for Sweetwater/Burns turning north on the Colorado River Road. The Coffee Pot Road is a left turn 1.8 miles up marked by a forest access sign.

Coffee Pot Spring Campground - Coffee Pot Spring Campground, with 6 developed sites, sits on the edge of an aspen stand at an elevation of 10,000 feet, with a sweeping view of the surrounding mountain ranges.

Deep Lake - Deep Lake is a natural 37 acre lake at an elevation of 10,462 feet. Nonmotorized boats and boats with electric motors are permitted on this cold water lake.

Deep Creek General Forest Area - The Deep Creek General Forest Area is located northwest of Eagle on the southern end of the Flat Tops Wilderness. The area is accessed mainly by the Coffee Pot Road.

Deep Creek Overlook Trails - These two short trails lead to overlooks of the spectacular , 2,300 foot deep, Deep Creek Canyon.

Deep Lake Campground - Deep Lake Campground sits on the edge of Deep Lake, at an elevation of 10,580 feet. It is the largest and most popular campground on the Eagle Ranger District.

Deep Lake Picnic Ground - The Deep Lake Picnic Area consists of 5 picnic sites located on the Flat Tops, beside Deep Lake, at an elevation of 10,580 feet.

Deep Lake/Heart Lake Loop Four-Wheel Drive Road - This series of four wheel drive roads travel through the Deep Lake and Heart Lake areas on the Flat Tops, northwest of Dotsero.

Heart Lake - 480 acre Heart Lake sits on the Flat Tops, northwest of Eagle, at an elevation of 10,708 feet.

Klines Folly Campground - This small campground with limited facilities is located near Heart Lake, on the Flat Tops.

Nichols Creek Trail - The Nichols Creek Trail branches from the South Fork Trail, 16 miles from the South Fork Trailhead, above Budges Resort. It is most readily accessed from the Coffee Pot Road, north of Dotsero.

Supply Basin Campground - This campground at 10,760 feet elevation, is located on the edge of a small lake on the Flat Tops in the Deep Lake/Heart Lake area.

Ten Mile Park Four-Wheel Drive Road - These scenic roads to the north of Deep Creek provide a good area for four- wheel driving, motorcycling, or mountain biking.

The Flat Tops Area - The area discussed here consists of the south end of the Flat Tops, accessed by the Coffee Pot Road, which provides a vast area for multiple outdoor recreation activities.
