Camp Hale is partially responsible for the creation of Vail and Beaver Creek Ski resorts, as some of the soldiers who trained at Camp Hale returned to start these world class ski areas. Be sure to read the information sign posted at a turnoff on Highway 24, just a quarter mile south of the turnoff for the campground.

Directions from Vail: Take I-70 west to the Minturn exit (#171). Follow Highway 24 south, through the town of Minturn, and continue a total distance of 14 miles from the interstate until you reach a valley opening. Turn onto the second major turnoff for Camp Hale, on the left (east) side, marked by stone pillars. Follow the road to the immediate right, travel straight for 1 mile. The campground and picnic site is adjacent to a pond.

Normal Services Available: Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day or September (NOTE: OPEN (Summer 2001). Seasons vary depending on snow depth and weather. This campground is available at No charge after Sept. 30th but no services are available. Access may be blocked by snow in Winter) .

Camp Hale Observation Site - Camp Hale is the historic training site of the 10th Mountain Division, which trained here during W.W.II. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Camp Hale Picnic Ground - The Camp Hale Picnic Ground is located at the Camp Hale Memorial Campground south of Minturn.

Colorado Trail - Camp Hale to Tennessee Pass - This portion of the Colorado Trail leads from historic Camp Hale, south of Minturn, to Tennessee Pass.

Colorado Trail- Camp Hale to Kokomo Pass - This portion of the Colorado Trail leads from historic Camp Hale, south of Minturn, to Kokomo Pass.

Hornsilver Campground - This small campground sits at the mouth of the Homestake Valley, along Hwy. 24 south of Minturn, at an elevation of 8,800 feet.

McAllister Gulch/Hornsilver Mountain Four-Wheel Dr - This steep and difficult jeep road begins south of Minturn at Camp Hale. It eventually links into the Wearyman, then the Shrine Pass roads, ending in the town of Redcliff.

No Name/Wurtz Ditch Four-Wheel Drive Road - The No Name Jeep Road is located south of Minturn. The road can link to Wurtz Ditch creating a loop back along Hwy. 24, however, snow fields remain late into the summer and the link is often not possible.

Upper Eagle River General Forest Area - The Upper Eagle River General Forest Area includes most of the area from Minturn, south to Tennessee Pass.

Wearyman/Resolution Four-Wheel Drive Road - The Wearyman Jeep Road begins east of Redcliff and eventually links to the Resolution Road, which leads to Hwy. 24 at Camp Hale.
