Looking up the Homestake Valley from Blodgett Campground
|
INTRODUCTION A beautiful, accessible drive on a graded road leads to Homestake reservoir at 12 miles from the paved road. This road is frequently traveled and usually very wash-boarded--drive slowly to avoid too much shaking. This road accesses many terrific hiking trails, check locally for details. It is also known as the entrance road to the trailhead for Holy Cross City, one of the most difficult and popular four wheel drive roads anywhere! The road is primarily flat until the very last mile, and travels straight through a beautiful valley floor, passing beaver ponds, creeks, and wildflower meadows. TRAIL TIPS There are many terrific campsites in this area, but they fill up quickly! Please camp only in designated areas.
