Beginning at Ski Cooper Ski Area, the first mile follows a road along a ditch to a ski lift and outhouse. From mile 1 to mile 2, the trail follows a creek and then travels uphill along the ski runs to the Continental Divide. At mile 3, the trail goes downhill along another small creek to a public use tent.

The trail then proceeds along a 4-wheel drive road that is narrow and steep in some places. At mile 5, watch for a a junction and take the right fork. The trail continues for 2 more miles along the 4-wheel drive road back to the ski area.

The trail offers excellent views of the Eagle River drainage to the north and the Arkansas River drainage to the south. From the top of the trail, three prominent fourteen thousand foot peaks can be seen... the Mount of Holy Cross, Mount Massive, and Mount Elbert.

Changing terrain and weather conditions present a wide variety of hazards. Hazards include, but are not limited to: severe weather, snow and avalanches, obstacles of all kinds such as rocks, trees and stumps; over exertions, hypothermia, and becoming lost; remnants of mining and other activities involving excavations and debris; and exposure to unreasonable acts of other people.

Directions from Vail: Follow I-70 west to the Minturn exit (#171). Follow Highway 24 south, through the town of Minturn, and continue a total distance of 23 miles from the highway until you reach the summit of Tennessee Pass. Look for the first major turnoff on the left (east) side onto a highway entering Ski Cooper. This is the trailhead... park here.
