The trail passes the Lane Mine, an old silver mine, and one of the first established in the Bradshaws. The ore from this mine was so rich that it was packed on burros to Wickenburg, put on wagons and transported to Yuma, and then sent by steamship to France where they refined the ore.

The trail is in only fair condition. It starts at the end of the Lane Mountain Road (FR 100, high clearance vehicles). It remains at a high elevation on the east and south sides of Lane Mountain until it reaches the abandon mine at Lane Springs. It then stays primarily in the chaparral vegetation type. After passing the Lane Mine, the trail begins to switchback steeply down into Copper Basin at about 4400 feet in elevation from an elevate ion on Lane Mountain of about 7000 feet. The trail ends where it joins FR 9286K, just east of Copper Creek. FR 9286K continues on to Humbug Creek and FR 711 where there are some attractive camping areas along the creek. There may be water at Sullivan, Lion, and Lane Springs. Be sure to check locally on this before depending on springs for drinking water. Portions of the trail are extremely steep and rugged. It would be a very difficult one-day round trip because of the ascent back to the trailhead.

Directions from Prescott: To approach the south trailhead, the best route from Prescott is by way of Mayer, especially in the winter. Take Main St. through the town of Mayer continuing east to the junction of the Antelope Creek Road. Continue southeast on this road for approximately nine miles to Cordes. At the Road Junction in Cordes, take FR 259 to Crown King. At Crown King take FR 259A south for a half of a mile to the junction with FR 52. Continue on FR 52 towards Horsethief Basin Recreation Area. Take FR 100 toward Whiskey Spring and Sullivan Spring. The trail begins at the end of this road. Note, however, that FR 100 is closed to vehicles from March 15 to May 15 annually.
