General Description

LOCATION: This route leads from the town of LaBarge, northwest up LaBarge Creek, eventually linking to either Greys River Road or Smiths Fork Road.

GENERAL INFORMATION: LaBarge Creek was named after trapper and mountain man Joseph M. LaBarge. From the town of LaBarge, the first 11 miles are paved, the remaining 37 miles are gravel or natural surface. This route links to both the Greys River Road and Smiths Fork Road which are both scenic drives leading toward Alpine or Hwy. 89 near Salt River Pass respectively.

ATTRACTIONS: Some of the attractions along this route include Big Fall Creek, a unique warm water spring with travertine deposits, the historic Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail (and Elizabeth Paul's grave), and LaBarge Meadows. Moose are often seen in this area. There are many dispersed campsites along the route. Some have a picnic table and fire grate.

Directions from LaBarge: Go south of town about 1 1/2 miles then go west on Forest Road 10138.

Normally Accessible: June through October (NOTE: Road may open Later or close earlier over Commisary Ridge due to snowpack.) .

Fontenelle Lakes - Located northwest of LaBarge, at the upper end of Fontenelle Creek, the Fontenelle Lakes can be explored either on horseback or on foot.

Fontenelle Scenic Drive - This route leads up Fontenelle Creek, north of Kemmerer and eventually links to the LaBarge Road. Fall colors are the main scenic attraction.

Greys River Road - This road, south of Alpine, provides the primary access for a large area along the Greys River, in the scenic Salt River and Wyoming Ranges.

LaBarge Guard Station - The LaBarge Guard Station is available for rental during the winter months. It is located 70 miles north of Kemmerer on the LaBarge Road and is accessible by snowmobile or cross country skis.
