TRAIL BEGINS: On South Cottonwood Creek Road #10050, about 3 miles west of the Soda Lakes road closure gate.
TRAIL ENDS: on the east side of North Piney Meadows, on North Piney Creek Trail, #059.
ATTRACTIONS: Though steep and traveling through an avalanche zone, this trail leads to a high, bare pass with good views and abundant wildlife. The only opportunity for water and grazing is at either end of the trail. The terminus is in North Piney Meadows.
Directions from Big Piney: Travel north on US Hwy. 191-189 about 13 miles to the North Cottonwood Cr./South Cottonwood Cr. sign. Follow signs to North Cottonwood Creek (#10125) and 1/2 mile east of the Forest boundary on road #10125, turn south onto the South Cottonwood road # 10050, and continue to the fork. Bear right crossing the creek, then bear left until you pass through the clear-cut. Just before the road ends, there is a range pole on the south side of the road, which is the trailhead.
