TRAIL BEGINS: Range Rider Cabin
TRAIL ENDS: Holmes Cave
ATTRACTIONS: Holmes Cave is a natural cave formation. Water from a small stream runs into the open mouth of a largely unexplored and unstable cave, dropping out of sight within 10 feet. The trail climbs 2.5 miles through open meadows and stands of whitebark pine and subalpine fir to to a pass. From the pass, you can see west down the Buffalo Valley to the Teton Range, south and east into Squaw and Moccasin Basins and across to the Gros Ventre and Wind River Ranges, and north into the Buffalo Forks of the Teton Wilderness. This also marks the boundary of the Teton Wilderness. From here, the trail drops into a glacially carved hanging valley, 1.5 miles from the cave.
