General Description

Elkhart Park Trailhead is located 16 miles north of Pinedale, at the end of Skyline Drive and near the northeast end of Fremont Lake. Trails 165 and 119 begin here and lead into the Bridger Wilderness. There are public corrals and drinking water at the trailhead.

Directions from Pinedale: Follow Skyline Drive north, along the east side of Freemont Lake to the end of the road at Trails End Campground and the trailhead. The trailhead is a total of 16 miles from Pinedale.

Moderate trail, well maintained. Heavy stock and backpacker use. Many climbers also use the first part of this trail, then turn toward the Titicomb basin. This is not the route for the person seeking solitude. Water Availability: The Wind River range was in serious drought in 2001. All water levels were low. Stream crossings were easy, but find good, tasty, potable water was challenging at some points along the trail.

Fremont Lake - Fremont Lake is the largest lake in the area and one of the deepest and clearest in the country. It is popular for fishing, boating, sailing and water skiing.

Fremont Lake Campground - This campground is located on Fremont Lake, just north of Pinedale. It is one of the deepest and clearest lakes in the nation. Some of its 53 sites are reservable.

Skyline Drive - This route begins in Pinedale and leads up past Fremont and Halfmoon Lakes to Elkhart Park and Trails End Campground. The entire route is paved.

Trails End Campground - This campground is located at the end of Skyline Drive, north of Pinedale, at the Elkhart Trailhead. It has eight campsites.
