General Description

The Courtright Reservoir is a small alpine reservoir located in the southern portion of King's Ranger District. It is on the edge of the John Muir and Dinkey Lakes Wilderness Areas. There are various campgrounds and picnic grounds located on the lake. The various recreation activities include fishing, swimming, and hiking. There is a 15 mph speed limit on the reservoir due to its size. There are multiple trailheads located at the lake for some great day hiking opportunities. The trailhead for the Dusy-Ershin OHV Route is located here as well. This is a challenging off-road trail that goes through the heart of the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness and ends up on the Kaiser Pass Road in the Pineridge Ranger district.

Directions from Dinkey Ranger Station: Take the Dinkey Creek Road west toward Shaver Lake for 2.8 miles turning right on Rock Creek Road. Follow this gravel road for about 6 miles and turn left for 3 more miles, passing Cuffs Meadow. On the right will be a rough, narrow road that leads to the trailhead. This section requires 4WD but is easy going. Once you get to the gravel road keep to the left, continuing for 0.7 mile. Look for the Brewer Lake sign on the left. This road is moderately easy and suitable for all 4WD vehicles.

Report: From the trailhead, you can't really get lost. The trail is very well marked, and fairly obvious. This trail is designated as "easiest", but be careful if you're new at this. (Like us!) The first big obstacle is a rockpile that you have to climb, and after that some small to medium boulders.
Conditions: Beautiful weather when we ran it, but came back the next day bout 10 am and 7-8 inches of snow!
Water Availability: Brought plenty, and Brewer lake is at the end of the trail.
