Located in the heart of the High Sierra Recreation Area, this is a short drive to a diversion dam. The old access road comprises the route and the dam makes an excellent place for a picnic. The road is approximately three mile long and is an easy drive for the beginner four wheel driver. Because it's close proximity to the campgrounds of the recreation area, this makes it an excellent day adventure. While at the diversion dam, you can view the nearby Bear Dome (9,947 feet) and the Infant Buttes (10,137 feet). At the lake, the Bear Diversion Motorized Trail turns into a foot trail that leads out to the Pacific Crest Trail in the John Muir Wilderness Area.
Directions from Fresno: Follow highway 168, 70 miles north until you get to Huntington Lake. Follow forest road 80 for about eight miles until you reach the trailhead on the right.
