Located in the heart of the High Sierra Recreation Area, this is a nice drive in a scenic area. The old access road comprises the route and the dam makes an excellent place for a picnic. The road is approximately 1.5 mile long and is a very easy drive for the beginner four wheel driver. Because it's close proximity to the campgrounds of the recreation area, this makes it an excellent day adventure. While at the diversion dam, you can view the nearby Bear Dome (9,947 feet), Mt. Hopper (12,349 feet), and the Infant Buttes (10,137 feet).
Directions from Fresno: Follow highway 168 70 miles north until you get to Huntington Lake. Follow forest road 80 for about nine miles until you reach a fork in the road. Choose the righthand fork and follow it for two miles. The trailhead is just past Jackass Meadow Campground.
