This more difficult route gives access to Red Lake. The lake is well known for its camping and fishing opportunities. The two mile drive will present a challenge to beginner drivers, but is not the most difficult trail. The trail is relatively close to Huntington Lake and is surrounded by the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness area on the second half of the drive. This route provides a short drive to an area where there is primitive camping. There is a trailhead found near Red lake. This trailhead is for foot traffic only and heads into the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness Area.
Directions from Shaver Lake: Follow highway 168 for about 12 miles until you find forest road 8S10 on the right. Take this road for about two miles until the road forks.
