General Description

Young America Lake is located approximately 3 miles north of Sierra City. This lake is planted with golden trout every two years. It is a tough hike to get to this special lake.

Directions from Sierra City: Travel northeast on Hwy. #49 for approximately 4 miles, turn left onto Gold Lake Hwy. Travel approximately 1 mile and turn left (southwest), continue for .5 miles and the campground is on the left. The Young America Lake is approximately 2 miles southwest of the campground.

Lower Sardine Lake - Located approximately 3 miles north of Sierra City, the Lower Sardine Lake has rainbow and brook trout. The area is very popular because 80 percent of the planted fish are caught.

Sardine Campground - Sardine Campground is located 1.5 miles northwest of Bassets at an elevation of 5,800 feet. Swimming is available at nearby Sand Pond and boats are available for rent at Sardine Lake Lodge.
