General Description

Though comparatively little know by the outside world, the Foresthill Divide Road is rich in the history that characterizes the Gold Rush region. Along this route, which predates the Gold Rush itself, are the echoes of Indians, emigrants to California, miners, lumberman and families who depended on the forest for their livelihood.

This driving tour will take you to some of the most interesting and little known places of interest on the Divide. Over this 25 mile route, you will find old townsites, mining history and some of the best scenery in California. The route will take you from Foresthill to Robinson Flat Campground. This is the paved section, past here, you may want to take a four wheel-drive vehicle to Soda Springs or French Meadows.

Directions from I-80: Travel 15.5 miles to the Foresthill Ranger Station. The scenic drive begins from the State Historical Marker in the center of old Foresthill.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Open: May/June through October/November (NOTE: Portions of the road are open year-round, depending on snow.) .
