General Description

The Little Truckee Summit Off-Highway Vehicle Trailhead is located 17 miles north of Truckee at an elevation of 6,300 feet. This trailhead has restrooms and campfire rings, but there is no potable water. Most of the area is open to over-the-snow-vehicle travel. Some popular destination points include: Jackson Meadow Reservoir, Meadow Lake, Mount Lola, Lake of the Woods and Haypress Valley. There are three marked snowmobile routes in the area.

These routes total approximately 90 miles and depending on snow conditions may require advanced skills on some portions of the trails. Also, beware of snow grooming equipment that may be working on the routes.

Directions from Truckee: Travel 17 miles north on Hwy. #89 to reach the Little Truckee Summit Off-Highway Vehicle trailhead.

Normally Open: Year-round (NOTE: OHV riding in the Summer and snowmobiling in the Winter.) .

Report: The whole area is awesome. It is not all that challenging but the views are incredible. If you are riding a 'dual sport' motorcycle you can cover much more area.
Conditions: In the summer it is warm (mid 70's). Some shallow stream crossings.
Water Availability: Carry water, as the water available needs to be purified.

Haypress Creek - Near Wild Plum Campground, Haypress Creek has catchable rainbow trout are planted every two weeks throughout the year. The upper stream runs through the meadows and is abundant with brook trout.

Haypress Creek Trail - Haypress Creek Trail is a moderately difficult trail at an elevation of 4,400 feet. On this trail you have an excellent view of the Sierra Buttes. This trail merges with the Wild Plum Loop Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail.

Lake of the Woods - The Lake of the Woods is located approximately 6 miles south of Sierraville. This is a popular lake with large brown trout and some rainbow trout.

Mt Lola Trail - The Mt. Lola Trail is a very difficult 9.5 mile trail at an elevation of 6,640 feet. This trail climbs moderately upward through thick coniferous forests, through open meadows, along Cold Stream, to the top of Mt. Lola.
