General Description

The Crane Mountain Trailhead accesses the Crane Mountain National Recreation Trail. Just south of Crane Mountain Peak, the trail is within the Crane-Bidwell Semi-Primitive Motorized Area, which is open to motorcycles, off-highway vehicles, 4 x 4 vehicles and snowmobiles. North of Crane Mt. Peak is NONMOTORIZED.

Accommodations at the trailhead include a parking area with adequate trailer turnaround and signed trail directions. The trail is accessed from the 4011 road about three miles west of the trailhead. Activities offered include mountain bike riding, off highway vehicle riding, four-wheel drive vehicle driving, photography (Crane Mountain is the highest point in Lake County), and forest product gathering.

Directions from Lakeview: Travel east on Highway 140 for 7 miles, then turn right on Forest Road 3915. Go on Forest Road 3915 for 9 miles and turn right on Forest Road 4011. Go on Forest Road 4011 for 2• miles. Turn left onto the 012 road and go for about þ mile to the parking area. The 4011 road, past the turn off to the trailhead, goes to the top of Crane Mountain. If you choose to drive to the top of Crane Mt., the road is very rough and steep, a 4x4 vehicle is recommended.

Normally Open: June through Mid-October (NOTE: Open for snowmobiling during the winter.) .
