General Description

Crossing way Trail #3307 is a very difficult 6.3 mile hike at an elevation of 4,640 feet. This trail goes through dry lodgepole pine country, the trail is relatively level for 3.1 miles then climbs steeply into the McFarland Lakes area. The trail then connects with the Pacific Crest Trail.

Directions from Blue River: Travel east on Hwy. #126 for 4 miles and turn right on Rd. 19 (Aufderheide Forest Drive) and follow it for 25.5 miles, turn left onto Rd. 1958 and continue for 5.5 miles. Turn right onto 1958-380 and proceed 0.25 miles and the trailhead is on the right. There is lots of parking for horse trailers and a hitching rail.

Box Canyon Horse Camp - Box Canyon Horse Camp is located approximately 30.5 miles southeast of Blue River at an elevation of 3,600 feet. This campground has 14 sites with trailer space, fire rings, corrals and tables.

Elk Creek Trail - Elk Creek Trail #3510 is a more difficult 3.5 mile hike at an elevation of 3,040 feet. This trail starts out steep with many switchbacks for the first 2 miles until you reach the top of the ridge then levels out.

McBee Trail - McBee Trail #3523 is a more difficult 20.5 mile hike at an elevation of 3,840 feet. This trail starts at Box Canyon Horse Camp which allows horses-persons to camp and then ride into the Three SIsters Wilderness.
