Clear Creek is a large modern recreation area. Located approximately 15 miles north of Jasper, on 41,000 acre Lake Lewis Smith, it is accessible by State Highway 195 and County Road 27. The area has 104 single family campsites, two group campsites, 55 single family picnic sites, three group picnic shelters, a swimming area and beach, a boat ramp, water skiing, fishing, a bicycle trail, and a hiking trail. Boating is possible year-round. Lewis Smith Lake is a large reservoir which is part of the headwaters of the Black Warrior River basin. The deeply dissected dendritic drainage pattern accommodates many miles of shoreline. The boat ramp has two lanes. Fishing is available for bass and bream year-round, stripped bass in winter and spring, and crappie in the spring. Natural and artificial baits may be used. Fishermen utilize vessels from upscale bass boats to basic john boats. Shoreline fishing is also popular.
