Open Pond Recreation Area

The area offers a 66 site campground and a picnic area. Small electric or manually powered boats are permitted on the lake. Open Pond is a natural sink hole lake feeding the Yellow River in Alabama's coastal plain. Canoeing is popular on the nearby Blackwater River. Fishing for bream and bass is available from April 1 through October 31. Natural and artificial baits may be used. Fishermen utilize small boats and the shoreline.

Directions from Andalusia: Travel south on Hwy. 29 for approximately 10 miles to Alabama Hwy. 137, turn left (south) and go 5.2 miles to County Road #24 where there is a sign reading "Open Pond Recreation Area". Turn left (east) onto County Road #24 and continue .3 miles to County Road #28. Follow signs to Open Pond.

Conecuh Trail - The Conecuh Trails provides a pleasant day or overnight hike through the 20 miles of Alabama coastal plain. There is ample opportunity to view the local flora and fauna, as well as Blue Spring.

Open Pond Campground - Open Pond Day Recreation Area, south of Andalusia, offers camping, fishing, boating, hiking and picnicking. The campground has 66 sites, some with RV hookups.

Open Pond Picnic Ground - Open Pond Day Recreation Area, south of Andalusia, offers camping, fishing, boating, hiking and picnicking. The picnic area has 15 sites with tables and grills.
