General Description

Lake Chinnabee Campground is located at Lake Chinnabee Recreation Area. Lake Chinnabee is a 17-acre lake nestled in a scenic mountain valley. The recreation area offers boating, fishing and hiking.

This is a primitive campground with no hookups, no showers. There are toilets. This campground has 8 sites.

Directions from Talledega: Travel northeast on State Rd #21 for 7 miles, turn east on County Rd #96 and travel for 12 miles. Turn southeast onto Forest Service Rd #646 and follow for 2 miles until you reach the campground.

Day use area with pavilion, grills, and playground is very popular with locals on the weekend. Swimmiing hole and falls a short hike up the trail. Sites fill up quickly on pleasant weekends. Shallow lake for boating and fishing. Nice, mostly easy trails. Firewood usually available. Conditions: A few hurricane-felled trees over lake trail. Some campsites hold water when it rains. It has rained hard on about half our visits. Valley/cove holds campfire smoke. Water Availability: No water at campsite. Get water at Cheaha recreational area (swimming and picnic area) 3 miles up the road. Probably no water there in winter, go to main Cheaha visitor center.
