Lake on the Ottawa National Forest
The Silver Mountain Lookout Tower provides the perfect western Upper Peninsula spring and fall migration-viewing site. From atop the 250 boulder-strewn steps of Silver Mountain, panoramic vistas await. Raptors including red-tails, kestrels, broad-wings, and sharp-shins sail through the area May to June and again September to October. Call the Ranger District Office for particulars. These birds usually migrate through the area for approximately two-week periods. Local bird organizations sometimes narrow the two-week period to a matter of days.
Directions from Baraga, MI: Take M-38 west about 9.5 miles to Prickett Dam Road (FR 2270). Head south (left) and follows signs.
