Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, propane stove for heat and an outhouse. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. Year round access. Cabin along Montana Creek to Herbert River Trail. Activites: hiking,fishing,skiing, snowmobiling,berry picking. Pretty Lake setting, spruce-hemlock forest. Black and brown bear, fish, waterfowl. Swans in spring and fall.Same day reservations allowed for this cabin. Open fires must be in fire ring,collect dead/down wood only. Cabin is primitive, no amenities except propane wall furnace and outhouse. Occasionally poor weather can result in extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this.cess only. Use of this cabin by a commercial operator is NOT allowed. Person holding the reservation must be at least 18 years of age, and must be a member of the party using the cabin. Hiking access only. There are NO discounts for Golden Age/Access Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Open to a public as a warming shelter daily from 10am 5pm, Resertrictions: Snow vehicles allowed only when there is 12 inches or more of snow. 2 day stay limit. All garbage and food must be packed out.
Directions: Take Glacier HWY. north of Juneau to 26.6 mile, turn right on Herbert River Road (just before Herbert River Bridge) Drive north approx 1 mile to Trailhead. Trailhead is at the end of the unmarked road on the bank of Herbert River. Three (3) miles by trail to cabin on East shore of Windfall Lake. Alternate trail to cabin is 7 miles and starts at the end of Montana Creek Road.
