Pinkham Canyon Road leads southwestward 20 miles from Cottonwood Visitor Center to a service road that connects with Interstate 10. It begins by following Smoke Tree Wash northward and westward into Pinkham Canyon. Approximately ten miles into the drive the road splits. The right fork leads westward as Thermal Canyon Road. The left fork leads southward into Pinkham Wash. Follow the right fork to remain on Pinkham Canyon Road. This contours the southern flank of the Cottonwood Mountains. The road surface varies as it travels through the drainage. The most challenging sections lead through deep, sandy wash and rocky flood plains.
