General Description

Black Eagle Mine Road begins along Pinto Basin Road six and a half miles north of Cottonwood Visitor Center. The road leads along the eastern end of Pinto Basin for approximately four and a half miles before entering the Eagle Mountains. This first section of the road descends slightly then remains even for the last miles within the park boundary. At approximately nine miles from Pinto Basin Road, Black Eagle Mine Road leaves Joshua Tree National Park and enters BLM land. As it crosses the boundary the road begins to gain elevation slightly. Once within BLM lands drivers will notice several spur roads. To reach the Black Eagle Mine continue driving on the main route eastward. The length of the road is approximately 17 miles.

Directions from Cottonwood Visitor Center: Follow Pinto Basin Road 6.5 miles northward to Black Eagle Mine Road.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Open: Year-round (NOTE: The road may be closed during the Winter months due to wet conditions.) .
