Monarch Ski Resort specializes in affordable Colorado ski vacations. Monarch's abundant, natural snowfall makes skiing a breeze whether you are a first-timer learning on our groomed beginner slopes, an intermediate looking for more challenging runs or an expert seeking fresh and untracked deep powder. Monarch has uncrowded slopes, a wide variety of terrain, friendly mountain hospitality and budget-minded lift tickets and lodging. Monarch sits along the Continental Divide at Monarch Pass, where the views are spectacular. To celebrate their 60th year, Monarch has added a new bottom-to-top quad chairlift.

Directions from Denver: Take Hwy 285 south to Poncha Springs. Follow Hwy 50 west to Monarch Ski Area. Monarch is 157 miles southwest from Denver.

Report: I found a place that is still about the skiing/riding not about real estate and shopping in Colorado. Monarch Mountain is in the middle of the state and is still unspoiled. There is tons of natural snow and no lines. Monarch is smaller than most Colorado resorts but it makes up for it with fantastic terrain; 800 lift served and hikeable acres and another 770 acres of Snowcat accessible terrain atop the Continental Divide. The area is completely hassle free, you drive right up and get on the lifts. Right down the road is the cool town of Salida, CO; lots of hotels good restaurants and friendly bars. Monarch is a nice change of pace from the mega-resorts, you should check it out next visit west.

Suggested Accessories: Bring your fat skis, it's a powder mountain.
