General Description

The main feature of this area is a 600-foot high, two-mile long white sand dune. The area attracts off-highway vehicle recreationalists. An interpretive area around the Sand Springs Pony Express Station is open for self-guided walking tours. Primitive camping facilities are available.

Only a few hundred persons a year came to Sand Mountain in the early 1970's. Today more than 30,000 recreationalists visit the area annually. With this increase in visitors has come an increase in traffic, traffic, trash and vandalism. So that everyone can enjoy their stay, please show your respect for other people and the environment by being a good neighbor.

Directions from Fallon: Travel 25 miles east along U.S. Highway 50.
