General Description

The Thomas Divide Trail is a wonderful trail for winter hiking with the leaves are off the trees offering many beautiful vistas. The trail is moderate in comparison other trails in the area. The trail connects to Kanati Fork Trail and eventually Newton Bald Trail at the site of primitive camping. By traveling Newton Bald Trail to the east, you will reach the Smokemont Ranger Station and Campground.

Directions from Cherokee, NC: Travel US 411 north which turns into Newfound Gap Road. When Newfound Gap Road makes a second sharp switchback, you may begin on the trail there. OR begin on the Kanati Fork Trail, along the Kephart Prong, starting on the south side of Newforund Gap Road before the switchbacks.
