General Description

The trail leaves from behind the ranger station to climb to Sassafras Gap, about 1/2 mile from the Shuckstack Fire tower. As you reach the fire tower you will have the opportunity for beautiful views of Fontana Lake. The beginning of the trail runs along side a rushing stream offering fishing opportunities.

Directions from Fontana Lake, NC: Take SR 28 west to the Twentymile Ranger Station. Trail begins behind ranger station.
