General Description

The Notom-Bullfrog road intersects Utah Hwy. 24 9.3 miles east of the Capitol Reef Visitor Center and extends south to Bullfrog Marina and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. This dirt road runs along the eastern side of the Waterpocket Fold and offers excellent scenery as well as marvelous hiking opportunities. Access to many of the park's backcountry trails, such as Lower Muley Twist and Halls Creek Narrows can be found on this road. While portions of the road outside the park are paved, most of
Notom-Bullfrog Road is dirt and subject to changes in weather conditions.
Visitors are advised to check road conditions at the Visitor Center before beginning this route.

Directions from Highway 24/Visitor Center: Drive eastward 9.3 miles to Notom-Bullfrog Road.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Open: Mid-March through Mid-November (NOTE: This route is not maintained in winter. Wet conditions can make it impassable to four-wheel drive vehicles.) .

Brimhall Bridge Trail - This trek involves a four and a half mile round trip hike to a double sandstone bridge. Hikers will have to navigate deep pools and dry falls to reach the bridge.

Burro Wash Trail - Burro Wash leads approximately four and a half miles west from Notom-Bullfrog Road. It contains an ever-changing landscape of tight narrows, high dry falls and sculpted sandstone.

Cottonwood Wash Trail - Cottonwood Wash is navigable for three miles west from Notom-Bullfrog Road. It is characterized by narrows, deep pools and chokestones.

Halls Creek Canyon Trail - The trek through Halls Creek is 22 miles round trip with three of those miles leading through steep-walled narrows. An permit is required for an overnight trip through this canyon.

Lower Muley Twist Trail - This route leads through the narrow wash of Lower Muley Twist Canyon. There are several hiking options along this route. Visitors should obtain a permit and current conditions before beginning this trek.

Sheets Canyon Trail - This canyon cuts the Waterpocket Fold from east to west. It is one of five washes within the park that cuts through the monocline and can be navigated.
