General Description

Resting just 1.5 miles off Interstate 91, the Pinnacle Trail offers gorgeous views of the Connecticut River carving its way through the rolling New England mountains. This moderate path winds through a forest of oak, birch, maple and pine as it ascends to several overlooks. As you near the summit, you'll have several steep climbs. From the summit you may retrace your steps for an easy descent or take the more challenging route which completes the loop and travels downward over sharp slopes and narrow passage. This trail reenters the main road just north of the trailhead. You may walk the road, which can be hazardous at times, or cross the road to take a less-traveled route through the campground and back to the park office.

Directions from Ascutney, VT: At Interstate 91 take Exit #8 and travel 1.5 miles south on US 5 to reach the Wilgus State Park entrance. Look for trailhead across from park office on west side of road.

Seasonal Information:
Normally Open: Mid-May through Columbus Day .
