Beaver Ponds Loop Trail, located near Mammoth, offers a moderate 5 mile loop that climbs 226 feet through Douglas-fir trees. The trail follows the creek up Clematis Gulch and the beaver ponds are reached after hiking 3 miles through open meadows of sagebrush and stands of aspen. Elk, mule deer, pronghorn, moose, beaver dams/lodges, and the occasional beaver and black bear may be sighted in the area. There are spectacular views as you wind your way back to Mammoth.Trailhead: Clematis Gulch between Liberty Cap and the stone house (Judge's house)
Directions from The North Entrance: Travel south to Mammoth Hot Springs. The trailhead is on the right just below the main hot springs by Liberty Cap. Due to flooding in 1996 the original footbridge was destroyed and now you must start from the bus parking area on the east side of Clematis Creek.
