General Description

The East of Aspen Trail is an easy, 3.1 mile trail that starts on Puppy Smith Rd., behind the post office in Aspen. One of Aspen's most gradual and scenic trails. This trail parallels the Roaring Fork River Southeast of Aspen for over 3 miles. There is an interpretive wildlife-viewing stand along this trail at the North Star Nature Preserve. This is an unpaved trail that offers hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and picnicking. In winter for a longer trip skiers can continue up Independence Pass on Highway 82. This route is 11 miles one-way fro the gate. The East of Aspen Trail is managed by The City of Aspen.
